The rain is back! Or, more specifically, the chance for rain is back. On any given afternoon this week some of us will see welcome downpours, others may miss out.
We’ll see a similar setup for both Monday and Tuesday, where a stray shower cant be ruled out near the coast in the morning with more sea breeze showers and storms developing and tracking north into the early afternoon and evening. Otherwise, morning lows will be back near 80 degrees with afternoon highs in the mid 90s.
Rain chances increase into Thursday.
Will my 4th of July plans see rain?
Possibly, in particular if you have afternoon plans, but it’s far from a washout. We have rain chances on the 4th at 30%, peaking in the afternoon and gradually tapering off around sunset. We should be mostly dry by the time we start the firework celebrations.
How high do rain chances go next week, and why are they going up?
The heat ridge that brought our extended June heat wave will move toward Florida, which opens the door for deeper tropical moisture to flow into Texas for the first time this year. We do not expect any tropical development because of high wind shear over the Gulf and Caribbean, but we do expect widely scattered thunderstorms to blossom daily starting on Wednesday and continuing into the following weekend. This type of pattern can produce waterspouts near the coast in the morning followed by heavy rain and street flooding farther inland during the afternoon. With the widespread clouds produced by these storms, even if you don’t get the rain you will likely get the rain-cooled air that brings below-average high temperatures in the upper 80s and low 90s.
