A suspect driving a stolen vehicle is in custody after leading police on a chase for more than 30 minutes on Thursday morning.

According to Houston police, the chase started on Houston’s southwest side, off Richmond Avenue at Fountain View Drive.

HPD reportedly spotted the stolen Nissan Rogue and attempted to stop the driver, but he took off.

The 37-year-old suspect led police on a chase down the I-69 Southwest Freeway, I-45 Gulf Freeway, I-610 South Loop, SH-225 to Highway 146, and across the Fred Hartman Bridge in Baytown, police said.

At one point, the driver pulled into the driveway of a home. A few moments later, when police caught up with the suspect, the driver backed up and started the chase again.

The driver weaved back and forth on side streets in the area, blowing through stop signs and red lights.

SkyEye flew over the scene as the suspect’s vehicle disappeared behind some trees and stopped in a neighborhood near La Porte High School and Sylvan Beach Park.

HPD said the suspect stopped at a relatives home on S. 4th Street in La Porte and bailed from the stolen vehicle, running off on foot.

An HPD K-9 quickly found him hiding under a tarp nearby, police said.

The suspect was arrested and faces felony charges of felony evading and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

HPD did not immediately release the suspect’s name.
