Police activity at Bellaire High School Thursday morning prompted concern for parents and students, and what seems to be confusion by police and school officials.

Shortly before noon, the city of Bellaire tweeted that there had been a criminal trespassing report at the high school and that “all suspects are in custody.”

In the message that was sent out to parents, the school said it had gone into lockdown after there was a report of a gun on campus.

“After a search of the building no gun was found. Students are safe and classes have resumed,” the callout said in part.

Reporters made calls to Luis Morales with Houston ISD. Morales said there were no arrests made in the incident and that no one was taken into custody.

But, when we spoke with the city manager of Bellaire, she insisted someone was detained.

Shortly after, the city manager came back and said the city’s original tweet was incorrect, adding that, “With the information that we have, we understand nobody was taken into custody. They were only detained.”

Meanwhile, HISD has not confirmed whether anyone was questioned or detained.
