Houston police have provided new information about the fatal shooting of a man by Officer K. Cummins in the parking lot of a Family Dollar store on Tuesday.

Cummins attempted to detain the man after recognizing the vehicle he was in as having been stolen in an armed robbery earlier that day.

The man allegedly reversed the vehicle, intentionally hitting the patrol car, before exiting and getting into a physical altercation with Cummins.

The man’s female acquaintance reportedly interfered with the arrest, refusing to return the Taser and magazine that the suspect had knocked away from Cummins.

Eventually, the man knocked off Cummins’ radio and got on top of him, prompting Cummins to fire his gun at least once, hitting the man once and killing him.

It has also been revealed that Cummins had previously opened fire on and injured Mario Watts in a separate incident in 2021.

The shooting is currently being investigated by several agencies, and Cummins is on paid administrative duties during the investigation.
