A person is in custody after another individual was shot Friday morning in southeast Houston, police said.

Officers said they were called at about 8:15 a.m. to the 2700 block of Reed Road.

The victim was shot in the abdomen and was taken to a hospital, police said. At last check, he was in surgery and in critical condition.

The suspect ran off after the shooting, but with the help of witnesses, police said they were able to track him down and take him into custody.

At the scene, the Houston Police Department said that they aren’t looking for any other suspects.

“Patrol got here. Witnesses say they saw him run toward the motel. They are able to take him into custody,” Officer J. de la Torre with HPD said.

Investigators were working to determine what led up to the shooting.

Officials said they were able to track down surveillance video from a Family Dollar store close by and were looking at that for additional information.
